POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Pharmacist in providing service to all areas of the UW Health SwedishAmerican Health System. Performs technical duties necessary to maintain the medication distribution system and possess the capability of learning multiple software systems. Exemplary customer service skills including collaborative working relationships with patients, multidisciplinary teams, and the public. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High School diploma/GED or presently attending high school. Retail pharmacy or hospital experience is preferred, in particular in the following areas: unit dose distribution, compounding non-sterile medications, IV admixture including USP<797> and <800>, and automated dispensing machine technology.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois. Candidates without a license may work in this role for 60 days from date of license application through Illinois Department of Professional and Financial Regulation
- Completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification within two (2) years of date license was first issued.
- Pharmacy technicians licensed prior to 2007 do not require Pharmacy Technician Certification.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. Good interpersonal, organizational and critical decision-making skills required. Proficiency and ability to use a computer and a variety of common office equipment. Ability to effectively communicate and develop collaborative working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Must be able to pass a pharmacy technician evaluation test with at least a 70% score. The evaluation test is administered by the HR Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Accurately fills physician orders. Keeps proper records.
- Accurately delivers medication carts to nursing units and exchange
