About the role
G'day! You've found an opportunity that could define your next chapter.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance with the ability to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment. More information regarding security clearances can be found at https://www.agsva.gov.au/.

The Mission - Why This Program, Why Now?

You're joining at the defining moment of one of the most significant technology programmes Australia has ever undertaken. This programme will build and operate the dedicated cloud giving Australia's national security community and its allies the capability to see more, share more, innovate and act faster than ever before.

The architectural decisions being made now - how we build the infrastructure to support networking, implement security controls, and automate at scale - will shape how Australia's national security community operates for the next decade. You won't be inheriting someone else's choices. You'll be making them.

Your Opportunity
Imagine leading the construction of facilities that will literally change how a nation protects itself. As a Senior Construction Manager, you'll stand at the intersection of engineering excellence and national purpose — orchestrating some of the most technically complex, fast-paced construction programmes in Australia.

This isn't just another construction management role. You'll own the entire data centre lifecycle — from site feasibility through design procurement, daily construction oversight, and commissioning of completed facilities. You'll leverage what few construction professionals ever get to touch: ownership of everything from the substation to the server and back to handover of the power and facilities to the racks and the operations team for occupancy.

Your decisions will ripple across the globe. The processes you refine in Melbourne won't stay in Melbourne — they'll become the blueprint for data centre delivery worldwide. You'll work alongside a diverse, creative team of construction professionals, engineers, and specialists who share one obsession: delivering the most innovative infrastructure on the planet, faster and more efficiently than anyone thought possible.

This is where your career ambitions meet once-in-a-generation purpose. Where your leadership shapes not just buildings, but the future of Australia's digital sovereignty.

Key job responsibilities
- Deliver high quality, on time Data Centers for our customers.
- Our Construction Managers are highly skilled professionals with a focus on collaborative problem solving and a sense of ownership.

The Data Center CM will be responsible for:
- Project management and oversight of construction related activities for new builds or general capital projects in Melbourne. This will include the ownership of the project scope, timeline, and budget.
- Driving costs down and schedules shorter while maintaining quality.
- Provide Construction Management for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centers.
- Review of constructability of electrical and mechanical system and building designs associated with the construction of new data centers or the optimization of existing data centers.
- Identification and implementation of all kinds of initiatives to drive better outcomes. Thinking big, acting small and diving deep!
- Creation of project scope and equipment requirements, assist with request for proposals, and capital requests.
- Total project quality including the assisting with commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight of the execution of the project.
- Issue/Manage the Request for Information process during construction and coordinate construction administration with engineers.
- Recording and reporting key metrics to team members and management.
Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
- Travel to datacenter sites for electrical systems audits, mechanical system reviews, constructability reviews, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
You'll be the driving force behind construction delivery that sets new benchmarks for speed, quality, and innovation. Your leadership will directly shape how Australia's most critical infrastructure comes to life.

You'll take ownership of day-to-day construction oversight, managing contractors and the full ecosystem of stakeholders who influence project outcomes. Every morning, you'll make decisions that balance technical precision with ambitious timelines — and you'll thrive in that tension.

Your responsibilities will span the complete data centre lifecycle. You'll assess site feasibility, guide design team procurement, lead rigorous design reviews, and drive construction through to commissioning. You'll be both the strategic leader setting direction and the hands-on team member ensuring surety of outcomes.

Stakeholder management will be central to your impact. You'll interface regularly with senior leadership, partner teams, and a wide network of internal and external collaborators — translating complex construction realities into clear, timely communication that keeps programmes moving forward.

You'll champion continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance delivery processes and technical efficiencies. The innovations you pioneer won't just serve your current project — they'll be transferred to programmes around the world, multiplying your impact exponentially.

Above all, you'll be a customer-focused problem solver who brings diverse teams together around shared goals, navigating complexity with confidence and delivering outcomes that matter at national scale.

A day in the life
Your day begins where the action is — on site. You'll walk the construction floor with purpose, reviewing progress against ambitious milestones and engaging directly with contractors to resolve challenges before they become blockers.

Mid-morning might find you in a design review session, applying your technical expertise to ensure engineering solutions meet the exacting standards that national security infrastructure demands. You'll challenge assumptions, propose innovations, and ensure every decision aligns with the programme's ambitious timeline.

By lunch, you're connecting with leadership and partner teams — providing crisp updates on progress, flagging risks with proposed mitigations, and aligning on priorities. Your communication is timely, direct, and always solution-oriented.

The afternoon brings the variety that keeps this role endlessly engaging. Perhaps you're evaluating a new site for feasibility, negotiating with a subcontractor on sequencing, or collaborating with your team on a process improvement that could shave weeks off delivery schedules globally.

Throughout it all, you're surrounded by a diverse, upbeat team of construction professionals who share your passion for innovation. You'll mentor emerging talent, learn from specialists across disciplines — mechanical, electrical, architectural, commercial — and contribute to a culture where bold ideas are welcomed and ownership is celebrated.

Your day ends knowing that every decision you made moved Australia's digital future forward. Tomorrow, you'll do it again — and find new ways to do it better.

About the team
Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences.
