Summary

Our Surface Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (SEMAT) is looking for a Departure from Speciation (DFS) Coordinator to provide Departure from Specification (DFS) Support and Engineering Service Request (ESR) program support to our customer related to U.S. Navy ships and vessels. This is a full-time position, located in San Diego, CA. 

What You Will Do

  • Assist the Chief Engineer (CHENG) and the engineering management team with administrative tasks for Engineering Service Request (ESR), technical repair documents and actions required for the engineering department. 
  • Provide support of ESRs and Process Control Procedures (PCP). 
  • Support contractor personnel shall generate responses for DFS requests in support of work not being completed in accordance with specifications during ship availabilities. 
  • Coordinate Government requirements for DFS with D-Level and fleet DFSs requests.  
  • Review all DFSs, upon receipt of the request from the fleet TYCOM using the appropriate references.  
  • Interface with the TYCOM, Ship’s Force, and Maintenance Team representatives when reviewing DFSs.  
  • Process all fleet (TYCOM/Ship) and SWRMC D-Level DFSs that require action from the SWRMC CHENG (the NAVSEA LTA). Processing includes reviewing and routing incoming DFSs to the appropriate technical code for assignment, by Branch Head.  
  • Process evaluated DFSs prior to submitting to CHENG, Deputy CHENG or designated delegates for review.  
  • Provide status updates, reports, and metrics to the engineering department management of all DFSs.  
  • Capable of conducting training covering Departure-from-specification (JFFM) requirements. 

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CAC ID base access.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be able attend and pass the mandatory Technical Authority Training within 90 days of onboarding and every 2 years thereafter.

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • Four years U.S. Navy shipboard experience. 
  • A current, active DoD secret security clearance or higher. 
  • Prefer technical/professional certifications. 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
