About the role

Automated software deployments and over-the-air-updates are at the backbone of fast and secure development of tomorrow’s ADAS and autonomous driving systems. As leader in these fields, Mercedes-Benz is on the forefront of new developments in this area. This role will support and drive the software development for the automated deployment and testing pipeline in order to bring SAE Level L2-L4 autonomous vehicles to the market safely. The focus of this internship will be to develop tools to deploy software to an entire fleet of automated vehicles and to integrate these automated in CI-CD workflow to enable the operation of our AD fleet at large scale. This is a full-time, in-person internship for 6 months from our Sunnyvale, CA offices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Familiarize with industrial flashing and diagnostic standards (e.g. ISO 14229-1, UDS) as well as CI-CD standards
  • Develop high-quality source code (Python) by applying best-practice software engineering methods, including code reviews, design guidelines, refactoring, unit and regression testing     
  • Deploy and integrate toolchains and single SW components in the cloud as well as an in the AD fleet
  • Test the product offline as well as in the autonomous vehicle
  • Collaborate with our international stakeholders and development partners

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering
  • Advanced coding skills in Python
  • Advanced knowledge in general software engineering (git, Linux, build systems, design patterns, automated testing, debugging)
  • Experience with deployment automation tools (e.g. SALT, Ansible)
  • Experience with scripting languages to automated operation system workflows in Unix environments (e. g. shell script)
  • Experience with agile software development methods
  • Good communication skills, ability to formulate thoughts and ideas precisely in verbal and written form
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing boundary conditions
  • Ability to stand for several hours to work on the research vehicles
  • Valid US Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CI-CD pipelines
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience Linux and Bash
  • Curious, self-motivated, and excited about solving open-ended challenges at Mercedes-Benz
