The Department of Microbiology & Immunology has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 1, SOM position. The incumbent supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

The laboratory of Dr. Kevin Van der Jeught at the University of Miami in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, seeks to recruit highly motivated candidates for a Research Associate 1, SOM to support research activities by strengthening the mRNA vaccination team. Opportunity to be a part of a fast-paced lab and be involved in exciting projects to understand the tumor microenvironment in solid cancers and studies exploring novel immunotherapeutic strategies.

Highlights:

Our laboratory aims to fight cancer using mRNA as a vaccination tool. We have several years of experience in this field and want to grow our team with a research associate. The main roles of this research associate would be to in sillico design mRNA, produce, perform quality control and validate the mRNA constructs. Depending on the person’s interest this position could also allow to help members in our laboratory with their projects or carry out some of the mRNA vaccination related experiments by themselves.

Experience in the mRNA field is not a requirement, however, any work in the mRNA field is a plus and could be considered for a higher rank of research associate position (with or without PhD or Postdoc experience). However, we are seeking someone that can carry out this work in a rigorous, organized, clean and timely manner. The research associate would be trained by one of our members into the laboratory’s mRNA pipeline. The goal with this position is to fill-in a potential long-term slot in our laboratory for the years to come.
