The Offsite Medical Secretary provides secretarial support to the supervising physician in an offsite practice setting. Responsibilities include telephones, reception, patient scheduling and maintenance of medical records, as assigned.
1 .Clerical, reception and telephone support for the supervising physician.
2. May schedule appointments for patients.
3. Acquires insurance authorizations for procedures and tests ordered by physician.
4. May enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician, subject to review and approval by the ordering physician
5. Maintains logging system as required for tracking test results.
6. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts and/or electronic medical record (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
7. schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary.
8. May be responsible for Medical Assistant duties if qualified with appropriate training, such as performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. May assist physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and or families; answers calls and provides pertinent information.
9. Retrieves physician correspondence from dictation service.
10. Prepares physicians mail correspondence.
11. Compiles documents for surgical billing packages if appropriate to practice.
12. Helps direct patient flow during practice hours.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Associates Degree or High School Diploma/GED plus two years of related experience.
1-2 years of administrative experience, preferably in a health care/practice environment
Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable
None (Medical Assistant certificate program completion is required if performing Medical Assistant duties)

Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $22.47 - $24.44 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
