Job Description
The Customer Engineering Manager for Product Area Tools (PAT) is responsible for leading the North American engineering organization focused on specialty tools and equipment, one of 4 Product Areas of the Bosch Automotive Service Solutions Business, a business unit of Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Division. The role is responsible for setting and managing the R&D budget, staffing, leading engineering associates and ensuring execution on design, development and maintenance of the tools and equipment portfolio of the business unit in both the Original Equipment and Independent Aftermarket Channels.
- Direct target line responsibility for leading the engineering (R&D) department in North America. In addition, lead global engineering activities for the products with engineering ownership or center of competence set in North America.
- Responsible for an engineering budget of $4 million U.S. dollars to develop the needed product portfolio generating approximately USD$200 million in revenue in North America and global regions with NA-based OEMs.
- Active leadership and hands-on contribution defining product related changes in line with Business Unit and Product Area strategy as well as growth and profitability targets
- Develop competencies and capabilities to reach time to market, price and quality standards while ensuring cost competitiveness of engineering services and final products.
- Responsibility for product development in response to specific customer requests and market demands, launch new specialty tools and equipment in the OES & IAM markets
- Leads engineering team in development of responses to customer requests for quotations
- Leads interaction with manufacturing engineering to optimize cost, production time, product cost and make/buy decisions
- Interact across Product Areas and Supporting Functions to optimize speed of New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Support engineering activities in localization initiatives across global engineering boundaries.
- Represents engineering towards customers in all technical matters in all channels.
- Align engineering capability and resource competencies with the strategic direction and evolution of tools and equipment portfolio.
- Ensures department is managed in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by Bosch Central Directives as well as adherence to industry and legal certifications.
- Ensures compliance with legal requirements such as Prop65, REACH, ROHAS, etc.
- Identifies weaknesses, recommends and implements strategies to improve development tools, associate capabilities and cross-functional interaction of engineering team.
- Active participation on the annual strategy review and budget planning for the PAT engineering team.
- Assesses and develops the department personnel; manages for performance, upgrades when possible; ensures associate training needs are identified and addressed, including assignment and completion of mandatory compliance training.
- Drives continuous improvement through all aspects of the Engineering function.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mechanical engineering degree preferred.
- 7+ years relevant work experience with minimum 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
- Communication and experience working with global engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience and success working in a fast-paced, matrix environment satisfying multiple customers.
- Proven track record of meeting commitments with the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
- Effective leader with ability to develop, coach and mentor
- Knowledge of DFMEA, FEA, Risk Assessment and Problem solving tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications.
- Effective communicator.
- Result orientation and connection of the engineering activities with profitability and growth.
- Take responsibility and ownership.
- Lead team with integrity and respect.
Preferred:
- Experience with automotive repair service.
- Customer management skills (experience with direct contact to customers).
- Experience with Bosch engineering processes and tools, including familiarity with applicable SAP in
