Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Operations Research Scientist for its Krakow location. This role is responsible for delivering innovative solutions in the areas of mathematical modelling and optimization (linear and non-linear programming) and numerical methods, applied to electrical bulk power systems and electricity markets.

Reporting to Anders Bjorkman, you will work in a collaborative environment.
 

Your responsibilities:

• Analyze and understand engineering, business, and software requirements, propose technically feasible solutions with estimates for the required effort. 

• Research, design, develop, test, integrate and document power system network and optimization applications, while following best engineering and software development practices. 

• Support software product releases and assist application users with expert knowledge, problem analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of defects as required to bringing issues to closure. 

• Actively research and further their own knowledge in mathematical modelling, optimization, market operation, power system analysis, and improve software development practices and documentation. 

• Provide expertise and represent the company in internal and external discussions with internal stakeholders, in customer meetings and industry gatherings. 

Your background:

• Degree in Operations Research, Applied Math, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related.

• Demonstrated programming skills in high performance, high programming level languages such as C/C++, Python, Julia. Experience with Linux-based systems.

• Experience with mathematical modelling tools (e.g., AMPL and GAMS), optimization solvers, (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi and Xpress), and MATLAB.

• Proficient English written and oral communication skills.

Development of power system and electricity market applications. 
 

Structures and databases, multi-threading, high performance, memory intensive analytical applications.
