POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of the Women's Wrestling Head Coach is to help organize and facilitate all aspects of the women's wrestling program in a professional manner that will translate into a successful and fulfilling experience for all student-athletes who are associated with the program. Other responsibilities include directing all aspects of a competitive NAIA wrestling program including compliance with NAIA and University rules and regulations; recruitment of qualified, gifted student-athletes; contest scheduling; budget management; fund-raising; and retention of student-athletes. A coach at SOU is expected to create an environment of respect, trust and commitment for his/her team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of three years college coaching or playing experience.
  • A well-constructed and demonstrated coaching philosophy that focuses on character development.
  • Ability and willingness to travel long distances for competitions and recruitment; work nights and weekends.
  • Experience with/ability to interact with a diverse population.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's Degree. Experience as a college coach coaching freestyle Technique.

Essential Functions

Duties - The following examples are typical work activities that are meant to illustrate the general range of work functions and are not meant to be all-inclusive or restrictive:

(60%) Organize and facilitate all facets of the women's wrestling program, including:

  • Team practices, teaching wrestling skills and techniques at a level appropriate for collegiate competition. Must be proficient in freestyle technique utilized in women's collegiate wrestling.
  • Create the Women's Wrestling match schedule a year in advance.
  • Intentionally teach character skills to the student-athletes, and hold them accountable to a well-constructed and communicated set of principles and expectations.
  • Establish regular office hours and meeting times with student-athletes.
  • Arrange transportation, lodging
