Position Summary

The Division of Allergy & Immunology is seeking a highly organized and experienced Registered Nurse - Nursing Supervisor to lead a team of Clinical Nurse Coordinators (CNCs) who support patient care through phone triage, managing biologic therapy prescriptions and prior authorizations, coordinating lab work, responding to patient inquiries, and providing education on diseases and treatments. This is a working supervisor position, meaning the Nursing Supervisor will not only lead and manage the team but also perform nurse coordinating duties alongside the staff.

Position provides day-to-day/frontline supervision, coordination, and assignment functions for patient care staff and patient treatment.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises nursing staff, including hiring/firing responsibilities, performance appraisals for subordinates, and initiating disciplinary action.
  • Coordinates patient services with physicians and staff to provide quality care in effective manner, conducting rounds to ensure quality of patient care delivery.
  • Facilitates educational opportunities and quality improvement activities for staff to ensure compliance with medical school and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assigns/coordinates activities and duties of staff orienting new staff and advising administration of conditions and performance issues.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed, including development of patient care plans, administering medication, vitals, phlebotomy, monitoring IV therapies and maintaining records in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Promotes/maintains good public relations with patients and families, acting as liaison between other departments.
  • Provides appropriate counsel to patients/families explaining medications, procedures and teaches care to ensure continuity of care and promote health care maintenance.
  • Monitors supplies/equipment ordering/repairing as required.
  • Performs Clinical Nurse Coordinator duties alongside staff, including phone triage, responding to patient portal messages, managing biologic therapy prescriptions, prior authorizations, and coordinating lab work.
  • Reviews and optimizes workflows to improve efficiency, standardize procedures, and ensure consistency across the team while maintaining flexibility where necessary.
  • Monitors patient outcomes and team performance metrics, making necessary adjustments to workflows or processes to continuously improve care delivery.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program, plus a minimum of 2 years of related nursing experience.
  • Current LPN or RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
