About the role

Overview

The Pavement Design Unit is looking to fill a Project Management position to help in delivering the Agency's roughly $130M annual program. This position will oversee in house designers and consultants working on asset driven projects across the state. While paving is the focus, the program touches on most transportation infrastructure and is tasked with maintaining these elements within the bounds of the resurfacing scopes. With this large of a budget and broad reach in infrastructure maintenance, the position will be best suited toward candidates ready to balance corridor needs with budgets and schedules, and those interested in delivering many projects every year with relatively short development timelines.

 

The position is located in Barre, VT. Telework may be an option.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis and these should be handled in a professional and respectful manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in enngineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND ten (10) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering including three (3) years of experience in project management

OR

Master's degree in engineering AND eight (8) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering including three (3) years of experience in project management

OR

Associate degree and three (3) years or more of experience at the AOT Project Manager II level

OR

Certification in Project Management (PMP Certificate) and three (3) years or more at the AOT Project Manager II level.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineering Licensure is preferred.

Some positions may require two years of supervisory experience. Participation in State of Vermont provided supervisor development programs may be substituted for supervisory experience.

Experience in interpreting and reviewing project plans and cost analysis, contract compliance and interpretation, methods of time estimation and recording.

Proficiency at the AOT Project Manager Level II.

Some level of technical expertise in the area of management (Highway, Traffic and Safety, Bridge, Railroad, Aviation)
