About the role

This is a senior leadership role that requires strong technical depth, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to lead teams through growth, complexity, and fast-paced execution. The successful candidate will build and lead a high-performing mechanical engineering team, partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders, and drive consistent, high-quality design outcomes that support OCI’s business objectives for capacity growth, reliability, speed to market, and operational excellence.

As a Director in this organization, you will be expected to operate both strategically and tactically—setting vision for the function while also engaging on critical technical decisions, complex design challenges, and organizational priorities.

  • Lead and develop a team of mechanical engineers supporting OCI’s data center design initiatives.
  • Provide technical and organizational leadership for the design, review, and continuous improvement of mission-critical mechanical systems supporting OCI data centers.
  • Establish and drive engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices that improve consistency, quality, scalability, and execution across a growing portfolio.
  • Partner closely with Design Management, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, Supply Chain, and other partner teams to ensure alignment across the full project lifecycle.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex mechanical engineering issues, design tradeoffs, risk evaluations, and technical decision-making.
  • Drive lessons learned and continuous improvement efforts by incorporating operational feedback, project outcomes, and field experience into future standards and designs.
  • Support business growth by evaluating new technologies, design approaches, and infrastructure strategies that improve availability, efficiency, flexibility, and speed to market.
  • Represent the mechanical engineering function in leadership reviews, cross-organizational discussions, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Build organizational capability through hiring, team development, talent planning, and creation of scalable engineering processes and workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with significant experience in the data center, mission-critical, or similar critical infrastructure industry.
  • 4+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including direct people management and organizational leadership responsibilities.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical systems used in mission-critical facilities, including cooling plants, chilled water systems, air distribution systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with liquid cooling systems and high-density compute infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical reviews, driving engineering quality, and making sound decisions on complex mechanical design issues.
  • Strong understanding of the data center project lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operational considerations.
  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing decisions across multiple organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a hyperscale cloud, colocation, or large-scale mission-critical infrastructure environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing engineering standards, design guidelines, and scalable processes across a global portfolio.
  • Experience managing external design consultants, equipment vendors, and engineering service providers.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience supporting organizational growth through hiring, team development, and talent planning.
  • Strong understanding of reliability, maintainability, and operational risk considerations for critical infrastructure systems.
  • Experience presenting technical strategies, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
