Engineering Technician - Don Plant (Pocatello, ID)

Summary

The Civil QA/QC technician will be responsible for routine inspections and documentation specifically related to the implementation of regulatory compliance (including CERCLA and the Bevill consent decree) of the Phosphogypsum stack (Gyp Stack) system. This role will be responsible for field inspections of the Gyp Stack embankments, dike construction, survey layout, soil density and moisture testing, and monitoring drainage systems. Will collaborate with internal stakeholders including engineering and operations, to improve monitoring and construction of the Gyp Stack. 

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for working with operations to implement and maintain environmental compliance measures required by regulatory programs (CERCLA and Bevill) for the Gyp Stack system.
• Perform routine inspections of areas as required by regulatory programs and company policies.
• Inspect and document work related to the gyp stack and gyp stack ponds.
• Collaboration and participation in technical discussions with management, operators, and onsite contractors.
• Monitor and record details on embankments, ditches, piezometers, roadways, settlement, and drainage conveyance pipes.
• Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.
• Survey and layout of Gyp Stack and associated assets.
• Work with equipment operators on embankment construction
• Perform material testing per ASTM standards.
• Help develop, administer, and implement policies and procedures related to engineering and operations best practices.
• Assist with and coordinate work being performed by outside consulting, engineering, and construction firms.
• Take on other assignments as required to meet business needs

Typical Education

• AS or BS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Technology degree (preferred)

Relevant Experience

• 5+ years related experience and/or training

• Proficient with Microsoft applications.
• Demonstrate ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
• Ability to work rotating weekends and extended hours, as needed.
• Ability to walk up and down slopes and on uneven terrain.
• Ability to work outdoors in hot and cold environments.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Exhibit an excellent driving record.
• Auto CAD and Trimble survey software experience preferred.
• Trimble GPS equipment experience preferred.
