Wisk’s internship experience is a 12 week, hands-on program. Our goal for our internship program is to see what it’s like to be a full time Wisk employee and complete meaningful work.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Composite Layup Intern to join our manufacturing team. This internship provides hands-on experience working with advanced composite materials and processes used in the production of high-performance structures. The intern will assist in the fabrication, layup, trimming, and finishing of composite parts while learning industry-standard techniques and safety practices.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation and layup of composite materials such as carbon fiber, fiberglass, and aramid fabrics.

• Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, ply schedules, and work instructions.

• Support the cutting, kitting, and labeling of materials for layup.

• Participate in vacuum bagging, resin infusion, and autoclave curing processes under supervision.

• Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring compliance with FOD and safety protocols.

• Support demolding, trimming, sanding, and finishing of composite parts.

• Conduct basic inspections of layup quality and dimensional accuracy.

• Document process steps and report any defects or discrepancies to senior technicians.

• Collaborate with engineers and fabricators to support prototype builds and R&D projects

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing, or related technical program.

• Basic understanding of composite materials, fabrication processes, or general manufacturing techniques preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely in a production environment.

• Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

• Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

• Experience with vacuum bagging, pre-preg layup, or wet layup processes.

• Familiarity with hand tools, sanding, trimming, and surface prep.

• Understanding of autoclave, oven, or curing processes.

• CAD or composite pattern experience (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or Fibersim) a plus.

Pay Rate for this internship opportunity is up to $30 per hour
