Summary of Job Duties:

The purpose of this academic observership is to provide an internationally trained dermatologist with structured exposure to adult and pediatric dermatologic practice within a U.S. academic medical center, specifically the Department of Dermatology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. This observership is intended to support the observer’s professional development through observation of clinical care, academic teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration, while maintaining full compliance with institutional, regulatory, and patient safety standards. This observership supports the academic mission of UAMS by fostering international professional exchange, promoting global perspectives in dermatology, and strengthening pathways for future education, research collaboration, and workforce development. It allows the selected internationally trained dermatologist to contextualize prior training within the U.S. healthcare environment while preserving patient safety and regulatory compliance.

The observership is educational and observational in nature only. It does not constitute clinical employment, hands-on patient care, or supervised practice, and it confers no clinical privileges.

The observership is designed to:
• Familiarize the observer with adult and pediatric dermatologic practice in the U.S. healthcare system, including clinic structure, patient flow, and multidisciplinary coordination of care.
• Provide exposure to evidence-based clinical decision-making and U.S. standards of dermatologic care.
• Enhance understanding of academic dermatology, including resident education, case-based learning, and scholarly activities.
• Promote professional development in areas such as clinical documentation standards, patient communication norms, quality metrics, and ethical/regulatory frameworks.

Scope of Responsibilities and Permitted Activities:

During the observership, the internationally trained dermatologist may:
• Observe outpatient adult and pediatric dermatology clinics, including general dermatology and subspecialty clinics, as permitted.
• Observe adult and pediatric dermatology consultations on hospitalized patients, as permitted.
