Senior Geochemist
Eden GeoPower IncAbout the role
About Us
Eden is pioneering sustainable natural resource recovery by using electricity to enhance subsurface permeability. Our Electrical Reservoir Stimulation technology offers a precise, water-efficient alternative to traditional hydraulic fracturing, reducing environmental risks while maximizing resource extraction.
Backed by leading public and private institutions, we have raised ~$24M, including $14M in dilutive capital from industry leaders such as Anglo American and Helmerich & Payne, along with climate-focused investors like the Grantham Foundation. Additionally, we have secured $10M in non-dilutive funding, primarily through four DOE ARPA-E grants that support our R&D in frontier industries.
Headquartered in Somerville, MA, and with an office in Houston, TX, Eden's team of 20 experts specializes in geophysics, geochemistry, high-voltage engineering, and subsurface tool design. We are actively demonstrating our next-generation permeability enhancement technology across diverse geologies worldwide, collaborating with industry leaders in geothermal energy, geologic hydrogen, carbon storage, and mining to redefine resource recovery for a carbon-neutral future.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for surface and subsurface field tests in early-to-mid 2025, in cooperation with our supportive technical partners.
About the Job
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geochemist who will primarily work in a team-based laboratory environment investigating geochemical processes occurring during the electrical stimulation of rock. These processes include water/rock and mechanochemical reactions in rock fracture networks created by electrical stimulation. The created dense fracture networks will have direct relevance to the mining, geothermal, geologic H2, and CO2 sequestration industries. The individual will conduct geochemical design, execution, and characterization of electrically stimulated rocks in our laboratory and field-scale investigations. They will collaborate with other geochemists, rock mechanics experts, and pulse-power engineers on rock fracturing and reactivity projects for geologic H2 production and enhancing the extraction of critical minerals from ore for both in-situ recovery and traditional mining methods. The Senior Geochemist will be involved in the general R&D efforts of the Company and will also assist in preparing and/or leading proposals and grants for U.S. and international private and public funding opportunities.
Tasks:
● Collection and analysis of geochemical samples from batch reactors, core-flood experiments, and field sites.
● Lab-scale characterization of geologic formations before and after electrical reservoir stimulation, using microscopy (e.g., scanning electron microscopy), whole-rock, and micro-CT.
● Lab-scale ore characterization before and after electrical reservoir stimulation consists of Bond Work index measurements and metal liberation via flotation.
● Support lixiviant design to enhance the leaching of critical minerals for in-situ leaching.
● Investigate the effects of mineral dissolution and precipitation on reservoir permeability and porosity and electrochemical reactions at reservoir conditions.
● Development and execution of field-scale geochemical sampling programs.
● Take an active role in the design and execution of laboratory investigations, optimizing geochemical processes related to geologic hydrogen and mineral extraction.
● Geochemical modeling using software such as PHREEQC or Geochemist’s Workbench.
● Prepare and present proposals, project updates, technical presentations, and reports for team members, clients, industry, government, and academic partners.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
● PhD in geochemistry/geoscience/geological engineering or related field.
● Minimum of 4 years of geochemical laboratory experience.
● Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make technically sound recommendations with incomplete information.
● Prior preparation of successful proposals, publications, or patents.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred qualifications:
● 4+ years field experience in oil & gas, geothermal, hydrogen, CO2 and/or mining applications of geochemical data.
● Experience with Nano- or Micro-CT.
● Experience with critical mineral extraction and leaching.
● Experience with Bond Work index and flotation measurements.
● Prior experience working with a scientific team and/or providing mentorship.
● Research experience in fluid-fluid, fluid-mineral, and fluid-rock interactions.
● Experience as a principal or co-principal investigator for e
