We are the Community Notes team — empowering the people to keep each other better informed, with a fully open source algorithm and data. Community Notes is constantly advancing the state-of-the-art in improving the quality of information on the internet and we employ an experimental, fast-moving, iterative approach to find product solutions that work for people of all different points of view.

What You’ll Do:

• Build. Build. Build. Build new, core functionality that makes Community Notes better — if you’d been here last year, here are a few (of many) examples you might have helped build: 

  • Media notes, which automatically show notes on posts that contain matching media

  • Making notes appear way faster by moving our scoring system to real-time streaming infrastructure

  • Notifications to people who engaged with a post before its received a note

  • Note previews that can significantly improve note quality by quickly gathering ratings on promising new notes

  • … and many more … we shipped >1 product update per week on avg through 2023

• Architect and deliver new systems with a high degree of autonomy. Your small group of very senior teammates will provide input, yet will be entrusting you to design systems that will be performant, scalable and reliable

• Work across the X stack to build the highest impact product improvements. For example, in addition to our distributed serving and storage systems, you might work with media clustering systems, trust & safety or ads systems, Grok AI, or client apps (web/Android/iOS).

• Shape the roadmap of Community Notes as part of a small, highly capable team, everyone of whom is deeply familiar with the product.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience building and operating software services at scale

• Great understanding of writing performant backend code in a distributed systems environment

• Bonus but not required: Experience with client engineering (web, iOS and/or Android)

• Bonus but not required: Experience with modern data pipeline and ML infrastructure

• Enjoy working in a 0-to-1 space with no known machine learning or product solutions, and trailblazing to build novel solutions that work

• Love doing whatever work is needed to get things done, enabling rapid iteration on the product
