About the role

We are seeking a Research Program Assistant to support ongoing community-based transgender and nonbinary health and wellness surveillance. The individual will participate in data collection and/or recruitment activities, which may include consent procedures, participant screening and recruitment, interviewing using computerized interviewing tools, HIV testing and counseling, and/or referrals to appropriate services.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Duties will include data collection activities such as participant screening, obtaining informed consent, interviewing using computerized interviewing tools, HIV counseling and testing, and programmatic activities such as facilitating referrals and linkage to care. Specifically, the position is expected to perform the following tasks:
  • Conduct participant recruitment and data collection activities, including field-based recruitment.
  • Conduct appropriate informed consent procedures.
  • Document interview summaries, observations, and field notes using a structured form.
  • Contribute to data coding and analysis as required.
  • Maintain compliance with IRB regulations and guidelines.
  • Actively communicate with supervising study team on collection and recruitment status.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience working independently, works well in an unstructured environment, and as a team member.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and protocol adherence, while maintaining flexibility to respond to multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills, punctuality and reliability, and ability to interact with a variety of people.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and electronic communications.
  • Comfortable with data entry and able to adapt to new software with appropriate training.
  • Able to occasionally work flexible hours to accommodate protocol needs.
  • Knowledgeable about LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Consistently correct use of pronouns for transgender and nonbinary people.
  • The successful candidate must be punctual, attentive to detail, and able to interact with a variety of people.
  • Experience with research or data collection activities.
  • Experience recruiting and/or interviewing study participants.
  • Able to occasionally work flex hours.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Some related experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college courses.
  • Maryland driver’s license.
  • Prior experience with study population(s) and/or other diverse populations.
  • Maryland HIV pre- and post-test counseling certification.
  • Experience with computers and data collection technologies.

Starting Salary Range: Min $15.25 - Max $23.00 HRLY ($26,676 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
