Clinical Assistant Professor - Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (Advanced Lung Diseases, Days and Nights)

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine. Patient care efforts will occur at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), Montlake and Northwest Hospital campuses and Harborview Medical Center.

The successful candidate will provide care primarily in the inpatient setting with additional opportunities for outpatient care.  Clinical assignments will include both daytime and nighttime shift assignments. The candidate will focus on management (diagnosis and treatment) of patients with a variety of advanced lung diseases who are often with high medical acuity and related systemic comorbidities.  Treatments will involve complex medical decision-making including the synthesis of testing data and evaluation of potential treatment regimens. Teaching responsibilities will include clinical bedside teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Clinical Assistant Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms.  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The anticipated start date of this position is July 2026 or later.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be: $18,000–$22,000 per month ($216,000–$264,000 annually) on a full-time basis and would be adjusted for actual FTE commitment, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include additional compensation of $500 per night shift for any work as a member of the night attending (nocturnist) team.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a medical degree (MD/DO) or foreign equivalent. Applicants must be board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
