Senior Associate, Business Analyst

Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week

The Position

The Strategic Initiatives team, part of the Chief Data Office, is responsible for the development of an authoritative, future-state Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud data environment, the first of its kind at New York Life (NYL).

The team is in search of a strong data analyst and programmer to migrate, reconcile, and create authoritative source datasets in the future-state cloud. The candidate will work closely with both business functions and the technology team to drive enterprise-wide adoption of the cloud. Note: This is an individual-contributor role at the Senior Associate level. Also, while this is a Business-facing role, there will be heavy interaction with Technology teams.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Define authoritative data sources and systems of record.
• Anomaly discover, root cause and gap analysis
• Actively engage with application, technology & testing teams across the organization to understand the data requirements, data flows, data entities and data relationships
• Work with the business teams to develop KPIs, metrics logic, business rules
• Define metadata and data lineage mappings.
• Define the functional data model requirements.
• Consult on defining enterprise sources and building physical data models.
• Cross-analyze several large scale legacy and cloud-based datasets.
• Support the definition of test scenarios and prepare test scripts to support business and technology teams in end-to-end QA testing efforts.
• Lead the business user testing and validation
• Triage defects

 

Requirements:

 

• Strong SQL background (TOAD, SQL Workbench)
• Strong programming/coding background (Python, R, SAS)
• Strong understanding of relational and dimensional data models
• Experience in working on large scale data warehouses and designing data solutions and/or building data pipelines
• Experience with cloud implementations (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Analytics experience on cloud data warehouses preferred (Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, Snowflake)
• Ability to write performance optimized queries on large datasets.
• Ability to define test strategies and approaches
• Ability to explain technical solutions to technical and non-technical teams
• Ability to perform data analysis on large datasets including historical and establish meaningful insights.
• Support adhoc data reporting requests.
• Analytical and critical thinking skills required
• Must be very organized and have excellent problem-solving skills
• Must be team oriented and able to interact with a diverse group
• A proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited supervision

 

 

Salary range: $90,000-$135,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No
