Job Title:

College of Social Work -Faculty Emeritus (SEM)

Department:

Social Work | Office of the Dean

Retiree-Faculty Emeritus (SEM) Lecturer

College of Social Work

Professor Emeritus with the College of Social Work at The Ohio State University and approved to be rehired as a retiree.

Position Overview

As the oldest public social work program in the United States continuously accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), now is a critical time to document our history while we still have access to the memories of the previous generation of faculty. The college will be commissioning a book that will feature comprehensive literature-based content, interviews with emeriti faculty, archival data and photographs from OSU, as well as CSW photos of social work events, faculty, staff, and leadership.

The project is expected to begin in April 2025 and last approximately 18 months.

This part-time position will assist a full-time faculty member who will be leading these efforts. Candidates with an interest in history, background in social work, and strong writing skills are encouraged to apply.

Performance Objectives

By the end of this project, a book will be completed. It is expected the book will be published by the University Press, or a similar publisher. Other uses include gifts for potential donors, gifts for alumni, and distribution to graduating students. The launch of the book will be marked by a college-wide presentation.

The Dean will check in on the progress of the book with a meeting after each semester. Progress on research, writing, and adherence to the 18-month timeline will be determined at the discretion of the Dean. If progress is unsatisfactory and a plan is not clearly presented, the Dean may not reappoint this position for continued work. This position is expected to:

  • Work collaboratively with a full-time faculty member to produce a book documenting the history of the OSU College of Social Work.
  • Interview emeriti faculty to provide background information on the history of the College of Social Work based on their experiences.
  • Work with The Ohio State University archives to find key pieces of history.
  • Meet with current faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors to learn their experiences.
