Job Description
We are currently seeking a Piping and Plant Layout Principal Engineer for a staff position to work on major energy transition, olefins, refinery and petrochemical projects located in both domestic and international markets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in piping and plant layout, design and engineering, associated with oil and gas projects with a detailed understanding/experience of the activities and deliverables to execute project work. As a Piping and Plant Layout Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for working independently in your discipline or leading a team of piping designers and engineers to execute scopes of work through Pre FEED, FEED and EPC projects. The role is based in Milton Keynes and/or London office with potential for travel globally. Reporting lines and interactions:
Hierarchically reports to: Engineering Manager
Operationally reports to: Discipline Lead Piping and Plant Layout Engineer and Project Manager
Directly supervises: Piping and Plant Layout Engineers.
Key interactions (internally, externally):
Internally: Functional Managers, all engineering disciplines (such as Technology, Process, CSA, Mechanical) and all non-engineering disciplines (such as project controls, planning, procurement, construction and estimating).
Externally: clients, subcontractors, vendors, partners, authorities, licensors.
You will be expected to:
• Lead and take responsibility for executing all piping and layout activities and deliverables on Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC projects in accordance with the project scope of work.
• Develop and deliver project specifications, work instructions, procedures, calculations, reports, requisitions, and bid evaluations to the expected quality.
• Develop and deliver plant layout drawings from initial concept through to detailed design.
• Provide technical piping and layout expertise and recommendations to all associated parties on a project.
• Review and provide input to project schedules to ensure piping deliverables and activities can be carried out in accordance with project requirements in a timely manner.
• Represent the piping team on projects in all engineering and design meetings.
• Present and explain technical issues to clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders in a clear and articulate manner.
• Communicate in a clear and documented approach with all other disciplines (Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instruments, and Process) to ensure information is provided and shared.
• Develop project deliverables and activities in accordance with relevant codes and standards applicable to the project (e.g., ASME, BS).
• Produce discipline calculations using approved software and tools.
• Produce discipline deliverables using approved software and tools.
• Adhere to discipline and corporate procedures, policies, and standards and provide feedback and further develop where applicable for continuous improvement.
• Lead the execution of works in multi-office environments.
• Lead the discipline activities on site visits, project meetings, and technical reviews.
• Provide discipline input to project proposals.
• Prepare and check engineering procedures and standards.
• Be proficient in preparing and checking discipline basis of design, specifications, reports, detailed drawings, piping material take-offs, valve data sheets, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and input for cost estimates.
• Check and review vendor documentation and drawings.
• Provide input to construction sub-contracts and evaluate bids.
• Be available to travel in the UK and overseas for meetings, site visits, and inspections to meet project requirements.
