Public Works Supervisors within the Merit System oversee the planning, delegation, supervision, and inspection of work carried out by multiple crews. These crews are involved in various public works projects, including construction, repair, and maintenance of highways, streets, sidewalks, driveways, as well as sanitation operations like refuse collection and disposal, brush and trash removal, street cleaning, and more. Typically, tasks are assigned either in writing or verbally by a higher-level supervisor or lead and are executed through the management of subordinate supervisors. Employees in this role are tasked with monitoring the performance of duties across different work units and are expected to fulfill their responsibilities autonomously, under broad guidance.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGES:
Knowledge of safety procedures when working in and around traffic.
Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance (e.g., check fuels, fluids, oil levels) for cars and light trucks.
Knowledge of the basic operation of various tools and equipment such as hand tools, power blower, burners, and drills as needed to perform job tasks.
Knowledge of basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
Knowledge of techniques, materials, small and heavy equipment operation, and tools used in paving and road construction and repair.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily performed both indoors in an office environment as well as at outdoor worksites such as roadways and construction sites.
Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
Work may also involve the occasional use of various hand tools and operation of vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
Workers may be exposed to weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold temperatures, or other potentially hazardous conditions such as near roadway traffic, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Job May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for employment in this position, a candidate must possess the following:
Must be an employee in the Merit System with regular status (i.e., a full-time classified employee who has completed a probationary period and not thereafter separated from the classified service).
Class B CDL (or higher).
Work experience using a computer and a variety of software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
Work experience reading and interpreting maps, and/or engineering drawings/plans, blueprints, etc.
Work experience planning and/or leading crews in project work (e.g., road maintenance/paving, grass cutting).
Work experience operating and/or working with heavy equipment/construction equipment (e.g., Backhoe, Limb Loader, Sanivac, Jetwasher).
Work experience setting up traffic control for projects in and around roadways (e.g., setting out cones/signs, flagging).
