Contract Writer - A Book About Hospitality

Position Overview

We are seeking a contract writer to develop and write a Christ-centered book focused on biblical hospitality. In a culture that often equates hospitality with Instagram-perfect entertaining, expensive menus, and impeccable homes, this project will reclaim the radical, gospel-driven heart of welcoming others as Christ has welcomed us. We are open to different conceptual directions for this resource, including, but not limited to:

• A foundational, theology-of-hospitality book that explores the biblical and historical roots of welcoming the stranger, moving the reader's paradigm from performance-based "entertaining" to heart-centered, sacrificial hospitality that reflects the heart of God.
• A highly practical book designed to dismantle the common barriers to hosting, such as small spaces, tight budgets, busy seasons of life, introversion, or the idol of perfectionism. This book would champion "unfancy" hospitality, showing how to open one's life and home with simplicity and grace.

The ideal project will combine rich biblical theology with warm, practical encouragement—freeing readers from the anxiety of hosting performance and inspiring them to cultivate a lifestyle of welcome.

Scope of Work

• Research, outline, and write a full-length manuscript (approximately 45,000–75,000 words) 
  
• Collaborate closely with the editorial team through multiple rounds of revision
• Ensure theological alignment with The Daily Grace Co.’s doctrinal commitment

Commitment

Contract, per-project basis.

Compensation

Compensation is determined based on project scope and complexity.

Additional Information

Contractors are engaged based on the needs of specific projects and are not guaranteed ongoing or full-time work. Participation in meetings, workshops, or collaborative sessions may be requested depending on the project timeline.

Please submit all materials in a single PDF (not a Word Doc or Google Doc) that includes:

1. Title and Subtitle

2. Controlling Idea (1–2 sentences)

3. One-Paragraph Summary
Provide a concise overview of the book’s purpose, scope, structure, and tone.

4. Target Audience Description (One of the Most Important Sections)Who this book is specifically for

• Their stage or season of life 
• The particular struggles, questions, or longings they are experiencing
• Why this book matters to them now
• Tip: Specificity is essential. Broad descriptions such as “Christian women” or “believers” are not sufficient.

5. Comparable Titles (2–3 from the Past 5 Years)
Identify 2–3 comparable books published within the last five years and explain:

• How your book overlaps with each one
• How it is meaningfully distinct in approach, audience, tone, or theological emphasis

6. Author Bio
Explain what uniquely qualifies you to write this book, including:

• Education
• Ministry, counseling, academic, or professional experience
• Subject-matter expertise
• Lived experience relevant to the topic (if appropriate)
• Previous publis
