The Smits Lab is hiring a full-time Research Associate at the University of Texas at Austin. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail; show proficiency in managing multiple tasks and working both independently as well as with a team. The Research Associate will be provided with training in clinical assessments and will gain experience in general research administration and the preparation of publications and conference presentations. This position is well-suited for individuals interested in pursuing graduate study in clinical psychology.

Purpose
The purpose of this position is to support a clinical trial funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that examines the efficacy of an aerobic based exercise intervention on smoking cessation in adults with high anxiety sensitivity. There are two openings for this position as this trial requires two research associates. One position will require more data management while the other requires more administrative management.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining and revising IRB protocols assisting with research compliance reports and procedures
- Submitting and maintaining contract requests/renewals for consultants, vendors, partnerships, and volunteers
- Coordinating digital and community-based recruitment efforts for ongoing clinical trials
- Management of purchase requests for study necessities (i.e., participant compensation, materials needed, refunds)
- Interfacing with research and other investigative staff to maintain effective communication regarding participant scheduling, data management, and quality control
- Supervision of staff conducting data entry and other tasks
- Conducting clinical interviews and assessments in both English and Spanish
- Management, cleaning, and preparation of data collected via online survey platforms
- Organizing and overseeing data collection and study protocols
- Other related functions as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or a related field
- Prior research experience (including experience as a student)
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research experience in a psychology lab
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Salary Range
$40,000
