The AD, MSAT Network BioProcess Engineering has the responsibility of leading the BioProcess Engineering aspects of local, regional or global strategic projects in the network, standardizing manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials across all sites of the vaccine manufacturing network and solving processing challenges in the network. The incumbent provides focus and emphasis on aseptic processes in biological manufacturing, both upstream and downstream by assessing performance, guiding and directing manufacturing teams and establishing best practices.

The AD, MSAT Network BioProcess Engineering utilizes Engineering skills and tools to drive technology aspects in MSAT and site capital investment as well as due diligence projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

Drives the performance of vaccine processing in the MSAT vaccine network:

  • Coaches, mentors, and technically assists MSAT and Production teams by providing engineering insight, suggesting alternatives, and removing obstacles.
  • Utilizes engineering concepts to optimize process flows, process parameters and manufacturing technologies.
  • Provides focus on emphasis on aseptic processes.


Identifies and establishes standards for Production materials (e.g. Consumables), Process Equipment, and Critical Process Parameters across the MSAT network:

  • Drives standardization of processes and associated materials.
  • Drives standardization of process equipment and operating parameters.
  • Delivers and leads global technology advancements.
  • Supports successful adoption of manufacturing and process technology improvements across the organization including mathematical modeling.
  • In line with global standards, understands and provides direction and input on future equipment design.


Maintenance of Aseptic Processing Engineering Standards, Provide Technical Support and Expertise, and Provide Necessary Training and Education:

  • Establishes and maintains a network of global aseptic process engineering experts.
  • Supports development of aseptic processing standardization.
  • Coordinates learnings and best-known methods across sites.
  • Provides technical expertise and analysis on manufacturing processes and complete training as necessary.
  • Generates and supports site aseptic processing technical assessments.


Participates in Technical Evaluations of Due Diligence and Strategic Capital Projects:

  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams working on complex technical projects supporting project planning and cost development.
  • Evaluates facility fit for new projects, technology implementation, and/or production processes.
  • Provides technical direction and assistance on new building design, clean-room design, and infrastructure design.
  • As needed participates on project teams through feasibility, conceptual design, implementation, and facility start-up.


Provides Technical Support and Expertise to Product and Process Transfer:

  • Manages and supports planning, controlling, monitoring and reporting of product/process transfers between facilities.
  • Provides expertise in engineering, design, or on-going operations.
  • Supports and leads technical team to identify process improvements aimed at reducing costs and/or increasing efficiency.
  • Troubleshoots manufacturing issues, identifying root cause and supporting corrective actions and resolution.

Requirements

Associate Director

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Business or related field required with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading moderate to complex engineering projects and initiatives in multiple sites/facilities within a bio-manufacturing, pharmaceutical or similar operations environment.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and influence and people development.
  • Fluency in English required – additional language skills are an asset.
