Team Description:

The mission of the Platform Product Group engineers is to build a trusted, scalable and compliant platform to operate with speed, efficiency and quality. Our teams build and maintain the platforms critical to the existence of Coinbase. There are many teams that make up this group which include Product Foundations (i.e. Identity, Payment, Risk, Proofing & Regulatory, Finhub), Machine Learning, Customer Experience, and Infrastructure.

The AI Platform Team is a dynamic and ambitious group focused on building centralized AI infrastructure and acceleration solutions that drive productivity, innovation, and customer impact across Coinbase. Our mission is to accelerate AI adoption, enhance team efficiency, and deliver exceptional customer experiences by embedding growth pods directly within teams across the organization. As a Staff Engineer on our team, you’ll be driving this transformative shift within the company. You’ll work with state-of-the-art AI models, frameworks, and tools, playing a pivotal role in shaping how people and businesses engage with and benefit from AI in the future.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

• Explore and apply advanced GenAI techniques, including large language models (LLMs) and Agentic AI, to solve complex challenges across the organization.
• Collaborate with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps and translate vision into actionable quarterly plans.
• Lead project execution by managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, leveraging your technical expertise.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code in Python and Golang to address critical product and business needs.
• Architect scalable, secure systems using modern cloud technologies and industry best practices.
• Mentor team members on design principles, coding standards, and AI productivity tools adoption.
• Debug complex technical issues to enhance system reliability, scalability, and ease of operation.
• Review and ensure the security, scalability, and architectural integrity of feature designs across teams.
• Build pipelines to integrate with third-party vendors and streamline workflows.

 

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Proven expertise in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services, with a strong understanding of micro-services architecture.
• Background in AI/LLM infrastructure
• Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code that meets customer needs.
• Experience mentoring and upleveling junior engineers by establishing processes and setting a high standard for them to follow.
• Deep understanding of what high-quality code and software engineering processes look like, and the ability to foster an environment that promotes them.
• Strong technical skills in system design and coding.
• Passion for building an open financial system that unites the world.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a preference for open and transparent cultural practices.

 Nice to haves:

• Experience navigating rapid company growth (e.g., from startup to mid-size).
• Familiarity with GenAI frameworks/tools, Python, GoLang, Docker, Postgres, MongoDB.
