Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Privacy Engineering team at Square, you will build internal products and infrastructure to protect Square’s customers’ privacy. In this role, you will closely collaborate with many teams across Square, including product engineering teams, privacy counsel, and teams within security and/or platform engineering. 

You will:

• Design and develop services or infrastructure that support data privacy initiatives and consumer’s privacy rights across Square’s engineering ecosystem

• Help define the technological future of privacy at Square
• Collaborate with other engineering teams incorporating privacy engineering products into their engineered solutions

• Provide mentorship and reviews for engineering teams working with privacy technologies
• Contribute to the monitoring and stability of our team’s existing engineering solutions

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
• A high bar for writing quality scalable, robust, and testable code
• Experience with Privacy Engineering
• Willingness to learn new technologies or languages
• Ability to cut across services, infrastructure, or frameworks in novel ways to achieve security and privacy goals
• A desire to perform and grow technically as an engineer or engineering leader
• Strong communication skills

As a bonus, you may have experience or interest in:

• Designing novel yet robust security or privacy architectures

• Data inventory, catalog, discovery, lineage and/or classification systems at scale
• Developing or maintaining services or processes to meet data governance needs
• Designing novel ways to understand and surface data flow, access control, and risk

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone B: USD $211,600 - USD $258,600
Zone C: USD $200,500 - USD $245,100
Zone D: USD $189,400 - USD $231,400
