About the role

Trilateral Research have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Research Analyst to join our Innovation & Research Team. As Senior Research Analyst you will lead and execute work in the EU-funded TRACE project. This will involve research into ethical, legal, and societal impacts raised by developing and using artificial intelligence (AI) systems in law enforcement, specifically those developed for tracing illicit money flows.


The work will include: researching privacy, data protection, and human rights impacts, algorithmic governance approaches, and citizen perspectives; holding stakeholder workshops; developing policy recommendations; contributing to research on ethical AI, especially on mitigating risks of misuse and mass surveillance, algorithmic bias, and Ethics-by-Design; writing reports; supporting partners with ensuring good research ethics and data protection practices.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Ensure independent, effective, and timely delivery of contributions to the TRACE project in direct communication with manager, client, partners, and collaborators.
  • Escalate project management issues and risks to manager/cluster lead.
  • Represent TRI at project meetings and external events, including travel across Europe.
  • Contribute to Innovation & Research revenue goals (funding application support, network expansion).
  • Grow knowledge of funding schemes and application processes e.g., Horizon Europe, commercial tenders.
  • Contribute to training and knowledge sharing.
  • Take initiative to enhance the profile of the company in collaboration with relevant teams, e.g., via peer-reviewed publications, popular press articles, presentations etc.
  • Support generation of research impact, based on the goals of the Law Enforcement and Community Safeguarding cluster and Trilateral Research.
  • Build and demonstrate a proven area of subject matter expertise in the law enforcement and community safeguarding domain.
  • Maintain and grow, through publication, funding and interdisciplinary outputs, cluster expertise and research-driven innovation for Trilateral

Skills and experience you will bring to the role:

Interpersonal skills

Professional knowledge and technical skills

Essential:

  • Good understanding of the societal, ethical, legal, or human rights challenges affecting law enforcement and community safeguarding, ideally in relation to new and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence.
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation in Europe and/or the UK.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods (e.g., surveys, focus groups, interviews).
  • Good multi-disciplinary stakeholder engagement skills, ideally experience working with law enforcement (or similar) and/or technology developers.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience/awareness of developing research proposals, funding relationships and/or tender/bid writing.


Desirable:

  • Knowledge/awareness of legislation/policies regulating law enforcement and/or technology development.
  • Good understanding of the policy and legal challenges of law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of research ethics.
  • Experience with research project administrative and budgetary requirements and issues.
