Overview
Join LI-COR’s research and development team as an Environmental Science Intern focused on advancing instrumentation and analytical techniques in ecosystem monitoring, carbon cycling, and sustainability. This role offers hands-on experience supporting field research, laboratory testing, prototyping, data interpretation, and product innovation for environmental applications.
Semester
- Ability to begin work this summer and possibly into the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Professional Qualifications
Education
Actively pursuing or recently completed B.S. in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Climate Science, Geology, Oceanography, Chemistry, or closely related field.
Experience
- Prior involvement in field-based or laboratory research in environmental or earth sciences. Hands-on experience with gas-phase and liquid-phase environmental measurement techniques. An analytically inventive spirit is highly desirable!

Position Responsibilities
Specific
- Assist in the design, testing, and refinement of environmental monitoring tools and instrumentation.
- Perform both laboratory and field experiments measuring dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), dissolve greenhouse gases (pCO2, pCH4, …), pH, and other environmental parameters.
- Contribute to prototype development and testing, and the validation of new analysis workflows.
- Support fieldwork, including sampling of soil, air, water, and sediments as applicable.
- Analyze data from advanced analytical tools and assist in reporting findings.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers in interdisciplinary research projects.
General
- Occasionally travel to field sites or research partner institutions.
- Receive training in relevant software, lab safety, and instrumentation.
- Ability to perform laboratory bench work, operate analytical equipment, and participate in field studies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
