About the role

Assistant Producer, New Sounds (part-time)New York Public Radio (NYPR) highly motivated Assistant Producer for New Sounds. The Assistant Producer is responsible for working with and assisting New Sounds’ programming team in producing and maintaining live broadcast events and on-air content, including daily and other recurring features, interviews, long-form programs and specials. Interest in unusual music  will be a key part of this position. The successful candidate will possess a results-driven approach to their work, individually and within the team, while sustaining collaborative relationships with colleagues and partners. The Assistant Producer will work 24 hours per week. This position reports to New Sounds’ Managing Editor & Host.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Suggest new artists for New Sounds/Soundcheck as discovered via promotional material, internet outlets of all kinds, word of mouth, solar flares.
  • Create error-free descriptive entries in music database for said new artists
  • Suggest programming ideas for New Sounds episodes
  • Fact-check & QC each new New Sounds episode, prepare audio for all destinations (on-air, 24/7, streaming audio)
  • Check for and edit outdated references for when New Sounds episode is rebroadcast, communicating to host/producer changes in timings for air
  • Write/publish all copy about New Sounds episodes, Soundcheck episodes
  • Proofreader and copy editor for most digital content (blog posts, articles, gig alerts) before publish
  • Work with host (Schaefer) to book Soundcheck/New Sounds guests & suggest Gig Alerts
  • Assist at New Sounds Live events as nec., provide promotional language for all platforms/outlets
  • Provide one show to Hawaii Public Radio per week: audio & cue sheet
  • Daily maintenance of social media feeds (Twitter, Facebook, Spotify) for New Sounds & Soundcheck including writing social media copy, creating social media assets (photos, gifs, etc)
  • Create Spotify playlists and shout about them on the internet, daily, weekly, monthly
  • Create copy to accompany performance videos and other videos for Soundcheck sessions
  • Social media coordination with artists for In-Studio recording for Soundcheck/New Sounds socials
 Qualifications
  • Passion and interest in unusual music and the desire to learn about venues throughout New York
  • Facility with audio editing 
  • Familiarity with radio broadcast systems, including music scheduling and automation preferred
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and concepts as necessary
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage several concurrent projects
  • Work effectively with New Sounds staff, colleagues across NYPR, industry representatives and cultural partners 
  • Excellent communication skills—both oral and written—with the ability to for build and maintain relationships with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational and social backgrounds
Additional Role InformationThis is a part-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $37.6328 per hour.This role currently operates in a hybrid capacity with the ability to work from home.
