About the role

Description

This Production Engineer role is responsible for supporting growth and development within our Colorado Salt Products manufacturing location and will also contribute to other projects and engineering needs throughout the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Major Duties/Critical Tasks:

  • Builds a safety-based culture within all aspects of the business.
  • Adhere to the values of The Nicholson Nine.
  • Works with plant operations manager and plant employees to optimize operations to meet business and plant goals (environmental, health & safety, production, cost, productivity, quality, energy, reliability).
  • Works with operators and plant operations manager to ensure process control is optimized in the facility.
  • Participates in advanced troubleshooting, coaches others to learn these skills, and ensures findings are documented for future usage.
  • Serves as steward of the facility distributed control system (DCS); works with facility management and vendors on plant automation improvements.
  • Coordinates logistics of raw materials and finished products throughout the facility
  • Tracks and improves quality of finished products; works with Quality Coordinator to optimize quality control plans
  • Coordinates with operators and maintenance to initiate changes to plant operating procedures to ensure they are valid and up to date.
  • Ensures regulatory and safety compliance via operating discipline while meeting the increasing demand for our products. Provides technical support to projects.
  • Leads planned shutdown and maintenance activities.
  • Develops job scopes, plans, and technical execution support during turnarounds, start-ups, and shutdowns.
  • Keeps up with standard lab tests and ensures calibrations are in place on the spectrometer. Lab inventory is sufficient and specific tests are completed and tracked.
  • Helps with work orders and tracking to reduce reoccurring issues and corrective actions.
  • Leads root cause investigations associated with unplanned events
  • Drives organizational improvement using Management of Change
  • Responsible for coordinating all technical responsibilities on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for having a field presence during project execution and commissioning.
  • Responsible for managing Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) aspects of all assigned projects.
  • Responsible for overseeing and encouraging compliance with plant safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Assist with equipment troubleshooting as required.
  • Coordinate PSM repairs and replacements as needed by the engineering department.

Working conditions

  • Employee works in facilities that handle hazardous chemicals.
  • Other personal protective equipment may be required, depending on job function and chemical exposure.
  • Response to off-hour situations may be required.

            QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS

Education:      Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, chemical discipline preferred.
