Behavior Support Specialist
Position Purpose:
The Behaviors Support Specialist reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. The work involves observing, assessing, and designing comprehensive behavioral intervention plans for both general education and students with disabilities in their assigned classroom setting. In addition, the Behavior Support Specialist will provide training and required supervision to employees working toward and maintaining their registered behavior technician certification. The incumbent will work with teachers and teaching assistants of preschool and school-age students, general education classroom teachers, administrators, related service providers, and parents under the guidance and direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of client needs, including functional behavior assessments (FBAs), skill assessments, and preference assessments.
- Develop, implement, and supervise individualized treatment plans based on the principles of ABA.
- Train and supervise Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and other direct support staff in the implementation of treatment plans.
- Monitor client progress and make data-driven adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress and services provided.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development activities.
- Adhere to all relevant ethical and legal guidelines, including those established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Provide consultation and training to families, educators, and other professionals on ABA principles and strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of ABA principles and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard office and school building environments.
