Waggonner & Ball, a Moffatt & Nichol Studio, is actively seeking an Urban Landscape Designer/Planner to join our Northern California team. The ideal candidate will have the following key attributes:
- Experienced and/or interest in institutional and civic architecture, landscape, and urban design
- Strong communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills and ability to work with a team approach
- Ability to think at multiple scales, is strong at problem definition and project scoping
- Appreciates natural systems, understanding infrastructure, and can develop built form (structures, landscapes, parks)
- Entrepreneurial spirit, a motivated self-starter to help grow the practice
- Strong understanding and commitment to quality
- Energized to be social and client facing
- Collaborative team player that can effectively work between disciplines to achieve multi-disciplinary work
Duties and responsibilities:
- Participate in the design process from conception through development of construction documents
- Develop and advance creative design concepts for clients/projects
- Produce drawings to create and document architectural designs
- Assist in the development and revision of production drawings and construction documents and corrects and updates documents as required
- Supports review of building codes and zoning analyses to ensure that designs comply with minimum legal standards
- Coordinate with architects, landscape architects, urban designers/planners, engineers, subconsultants and other disciplines as required to deliver projects
- Coordinate activities with Waggonner & Ball New Orleans Studio
- Perform periodic site visits as required
- Closely collaborate with regulatory agencies to shape new and comply with existing policies for resiliency and adaptation projects
- Assist clients with navigating complex evolving coastal and urban policies and regulations
- Attend client meetings including development of meeting minutes
- Support building relationships with existing and new clients
- Participate in projects pursuits / opportunities including positioning, team building, proposal writing, interviewing and contract negotiation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture; required
- Minimum 5-10 years of related professional experience; required
- Commitment to Design Excellence
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Problem solving skills, attention to detail, and motivation to learn
- Collaborative and professional work ethic
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, visualization, and graphic software
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
- Interest in completing ARE, LARE, LEED AP, or NCI
