Research & Analytics Scientist

Job Summary:

This position will play a supportive role in understanding and increasing awareness of the social and structural determinants of health and health inequities. This position identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps prepare the results for presentation to broad audience or for scholarly publications to help advance translational research uptake. The Research and Analytics Scientist will also contribute to the annual Data Release.

CHR&R, a program of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, draws attention to why there are differences in health within and across communities. Responsibilities:

Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

• 30% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
• 30% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
• 15% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
• 10% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
• 5% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
• 10% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

Preferred
PhD in Population Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, or closely related health sciences field required prior to start date. Candidates who are in the final stages of defending their dissertation will be considered.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- At least two years of successful and relevant experience in health-related applied research, statistics, and analytics.
- Familiarity with a variety of quantitative research methods.
- Experience independently developing code in various software (including SAS or R) to conduct advanced statistical analyses.
- Expertise in the field of population health and the measurement of health disparities, as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications or presentations.
- Experience working with large national data sets, such as those from the US Census, NCHS, BRFSS, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
-At least one year of experience working with a national public health program.

Skills & Abilities:
-Detail oriented, have strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
