Job Description

The Transportation Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Construction Inspector IV for immediate employment in the Novi, MI office. This position provides the opportunity to work on large, unique, and complex transportation projects in Michigan and throughout the country.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Uses past experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals and solve problems in the field as they arise.  
  • Responsible for monitoring deadlines, overseeing and coordinating project testing, and coordinating work with the Contractor.
  • Responsible for relaying major problems that affect cost/scope to the Project Engineer. 
  • Provides on the job training and mentoring to new and lower-level employees.
  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties.
  • Performs daily field inspections, maintains inspection records, and review inspector reports from lower-level inspectors.
  • Participates in punch lists, testing, and commissioning.
  • Tracks quality assurance progress.
  • MDOT certifications are required or must be earned within 6 months of beginning employment.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education. 
  • Basic understanding of construction principles and practices
  • Ability to document all relevant events, issues and variances
  • Good active written and verbal communication with construction personnel and engineers
  • Ability to perform basic computations and calculations and review calculations that other inspectors complete
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Valid Driver's license, with good driving record

Preferred Requirements 

  • High School Diploma + Minimum 10+ years of MDOT, other state DOT, or local agency construction inspection experience required; or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
  • MDOT HMA Paving Certification
  • SESC Certification and be a storm Water Operator
  • Level 1 Concrete Certification
  • MDOT Aggregate Certification
  • MDOT Density Certification
  • MDOT or other state DOT Construction Inspection

Additional Information

The selected individual will be a key person in the administration of transportation engineering projects in Michigan.  The individual will lead and guide lower-level inspection staff, coordinate work with Contractors, schedule inspection staff, review daily reports, and assist in activities that lead to new work, such as meeting with clients, writing proposals, and reviewing plans and specifications during the project pursuit phase. 

  • Weekend and night work will be required. 
  • Overnight travel within the state may be required.
