The salary range for this position is $4,414.00 - $5,468.00 monthly.

Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for Assistant Maintenance Technicians (3 positions) to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Road Operations team. The successful candidate will perform traffic control within work sites, operate assigned equipment, and perform other general labor duties. 

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Perform labor associated with maintenance and repair of County roadway systems including traffic control, vegetation control, asphalt patching, and assistance at the County rock pit sites.  
  • Control traffic by flagging to guide traffic through work areas and explain to public reasons for the job being performed, perform traffic control by properly placing signs and cones.
  • Drive and operate a variety of equipment, such as, but not limited to:
    • 5-yard dump truck
    • Tractor broom
    • Shoulder mower
    • Air compressor/Jackhammer
    • Forklift
    • Portable compactor
    • Portable brush cutter
  • Will be assigned to various maintenance activities such as, but not limited to:
    • Brush crew
    • Grading
    • Traffic control
    • Ditching
    • Patching
    • Chip Seal
    • Belt loading
    • Shoulder rock
    • Fabric crew
    • Bridge crew
    • Mowing

This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs, such as clearing roads during a snow and ice event.
