Assistant Professor of Secondary & Graduate Education - Tenure Track - Fall 2026

The College of Education, Health, and Rehabilitation is seeking an innovative Assistant Professor of Secondary & Graduate Education to join our faculty in September 2026; this is a 9-month, tenure-track position. We are looking for a dedicated educator committed to advancing K-12 education through diverse and inclusive practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in secondary-level curriculum and instruction. This role involves a 12-credit per semester teaching load, offering the flexibility to engage with students through undergraduate and graduate coursework in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments.
 

In addition to a four-course teaching load per semester, the successful candidate will advise and mentor students, contributing to their academic and professional growth. Faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly profile through research and publications while engaging in meaningful departmental, university, and community service, including recruitment and outreach initiatives.

  • The Assistant Professor position, annual salary $64,711; plus a 10% employer retirement contribution.  
  • The Instructor position annual salary  $53,821;  plus a 10% employer retirement contribution.

As a full-time faculty member, you will be expected to:

  • Design and deliver rigorous and engaging courses across diverse learning environments including, but not limited to: in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous modalities
  • Support students in their learning and connect them to UMF resources as needed.
  • Advise students in the major.
  • Teach four classes each semester (fall & spring/total 24 credits), with opportunities to teach additional classes in the summer.
  • Participate in program meetings, UMF committees, community service, and collaborate with peers across the University of Maine System (UMS).
  • UMF faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, college, and university.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • A Doctorate in Education, Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment; or a related field is required for tenure; or (ABD) at the time of hire will be considered at the instructor level. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time teaching experience in middle or high school classrooms.
     

 Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Experience teaching in Secondary Education, particularly in Social Studies or Science 
  • Experience working with rural schools 
  • Familiarity with instructional technology 
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate education courses in traditional, blended, and online formats
