From construction observation/inspection services to laboratory testing and materials and forensic engineering, our Construction Materials Engineering and Testing market helps to develop and maintain America's infrastructure and supply chain and is a recognized industry leader with more than 25 accredited laboratories. Step into Your New Role Kleinfelder is currently seeking a Laboratory Manager to perform testing, and provide coordination, quality management, and oversight to its laboratory in Ontario, California. The Laboratory Manager will manage all activities related to the performance of laboratory testing in support of our Geotechnical and Construction Materials Engineering and Testing teams. They will meet agreed upon project deadlines by performing testing; scheduling technicians and managing workloads; confirm that technicians are correctly performing testing, calibrations, calculations, and computations by implementing and maintaining the requirements of the Kleinfelder Quality Management System; and hire, train, coordinate and supervise assigned staff. The ideal candidate will work independently and use industry knowledge to solve problems of moderate scope. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership and knowledge of commercial laboratory operations. Position responsibilities will include: - Promoting, sustaining, and demonstrating Kleinfelder's values and safety commitment - Prudently managing resources and staff to ensure efficiency and quality - Supervising operational personnel (laboratory staff), including resource coordination, internal quality control, and management of deliverables - Communicating with clients and coworkers to successfully and profitably deliver laboratory services on a consistent basis - Providing technical leadership and guidance for staff - Representing Kleinfelder in local professional organizations - Ensuring project deadlines are met by providing proper scheduling, coordination, and organization of available resources - Performing routine to complex laboratory testing on soils, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and steel materials - Performing the required testing, documentation, computations, and quality review in accordance with Kleinfelder's Quality Management System Manual and applicable testing standards (ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans, etc.) - Ensuring that laboratory equipment is properly maintained and calibrated in accordance with internal procedures - Maintaining Kleinfelder's laboratory accreditations - Establishing and maintaining relationships through excellent communication, professionalism, and having a client service focus
Consideration for this position requires the following experience:
- 5+ years of experience with laboratory testing of construction materials - Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a drug screen - High school diploma or equivalent - Ability to work independently and as a team member, maintaining composure and working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities - Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - Able to use a company provided laptop or tablet computer and a working knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) - Organization and multi-tasking ability - A good work ethic, attention to detail, and high level of personal integrity - Authorization to work in the United States
In addition to the above required experience, hiring preference will be given to those with the following certifications or experience:
- Previous experience as a Laboratory Manager or Supervisor - Previous experience with geotechnical laboratory testing (R-Value, Direct Shear, Consolidations, etc.) - Associates degree or higher in construction technology, construction management, or a related engineering field - Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamental of Engineering (FE) certification
American Concrete Institute (ACI) certifications, including:
- Aggregate Testing Technician - Level 1 or 2
- Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade 1
- Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level 1 or 2
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certifications, including:
