About the role

The National Football League (NFL) is looking for a Director of Wireless Engineering & Architecture with a strong background in enterprise and stadium wireless environments to serve as a technical lead on an innovative team of solutions engineers and architects. The Director will be responsible for setting the strategic vision and technical direction for the NFL’s wireless infrastructure, ensuring robust, scalable, and high-performance connectivity that supports critical services across media workflows, game applications, and backend systems.  

The Director of Wireless Engineering & Architecture will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and senior-most authority on wireless technologies within the organization. They will lead the architecture, design, and operations  of NFL wireless networks, while also working along a team of engineers and collaborating with internal stakeholders, stadium authorities, and external partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in high-performance wireless networks, paired with proven leadership experience. A successful Director will be a self-starter with an ownership attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive innovation and execution across a high-performing team under tight deadlines. 

This role can be based out of our New York NY, Mount Laurel NJ, or Inglewood CA offices.  

 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead the strategic vision, architecture, and operational excellence of the NFL Corporate and Stadium wireless networks, ensuring high-performance connectivity for Core NFL Game Technology, media workflows, and backend services.
  • Establishes, documents, and enforces enterprise standards for wireless network systems, leveraging automation, analytics, and emerging technologies to drive performance, scalability, and innovation. 
  • Provide dedicated strategic and operational support for on-site stadium wireless network and Wi-Fi technicians during NFL game days throughout the NFL season. 
  • Serve as the senior-most subject matter expert for wireless technologies, representing the NFL IT Department in executive forums, with Clubs, Stadium Authorities, and external partners 
  • Own the development and governance of wireless network documentation, including architectural diagrams, operational procedures, and training materials.  
  • Drive the evaluation and adoption of next-generation wireless technologies, aligning infrastructure investments with long-term business and technology strategies. 
  • Partner with senior leaders across operations, security, events, and infrastructure to ensure wireless capabilities are integrated into enterprise initiatives and future planning.
  • Lead the resolutions of all wireless service issues, coordinating with IT teams, product support, vendors, and business units to ensure timely resolution and root cause analysis. 
  • Define and report on wireless network KPIs and performance metrics, providing executive-level insights into service levels, capacity planning, and infrastructure health. 
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across internal infrastructure initiatives, ensuring wireless considerations are integrated into the broader IT strategies. 
  • Provide executive oversight for wireless infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with IT roadmaps, budget adherence, and timely delivery of key initiatives 
  • Perform as a Wireless Architect/ Principal SME on team of senior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Remain on the cutting edge by studying state-of-the-art wireless technologies, participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal wireless networks; participating in professional organizations on wireless topics.
  • Represent the NFL in industry forums and professional organizations, staying at the forefront of wireless technology trends and best practices.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, with 10+ years of experience or equivalent military service, including 5+ years in a architectural role.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale wireless infrastructure initiatives across complex enterprise or venue environments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience exceeding 10 years in wireless network architecture and implementation, troubleshooting and performance optimization, and lifecycle maintenance, including channel planning, directional antennae configurations, and long-haul wireless applications. 
  • Deeply proficient in wireless network architecture and administration, particularly Cisco and Extreme products, with deep expertise in enterprise controllers, access points, routers, and switches.
