Job Description:

Join the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission as a Financial Auditor and play a pivotal role in shaping the integrity of the gaming industry. We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented professional to ensure the financial compliance of gaming operators and uphold the commission’s mission. Compensation range is $21.881-$32.255 per hour, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications, within budgetary constraints, if approved.

Examples of Work

• Conducts thorough reviews of financial documents and reports from Authorized Gaming Operators, ensuring compliance with the Nebraska Racetrack Gaming Act and Commission regulations.
• Performs detailed audit testing to verify adherence to established policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Conducts routine to complex field review and audits of statistical and financial records of Authorized Gaming Operators.
• Develops and implements forensic audits to assess and enhance the operations of gaming entities.
• Compiles and analyzes financial data and presents findings to applicable stakeholders.
• Prepares and delivers testimony, presenting audit findings surrounding any civil, regulatory, criminal, or departmental action.
• Embraces additional responsibilities as needed to support the Commission’s evolving needs.


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting (see also Legal Requirements).

Legal Requirements: Positions in this classification are subject to Title 42, Nebraska Administrative Code, Chapter 1 –Minimum Standards for Government Employees Identified as Auditors. The basic requirement is a bachelor’s degree in business administration or the equivalent, with at least 24 semester hours of accounting or auditing. Any combination of education with a concentration in accounting and auditing experience acceptable to the Auditor of Public Accounts, may be substituted for the educational requirements in Section 002.01.

Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years’ experience conducting financial audits.

Other: This position requires regular, reliable attendance, and a valid driver’s license. Must be able to drive a state car and/or provide independent authorized transportation. Travel to operator sites will be occasional day trips.


 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • A solid foundation in accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • An interest in the gaming industry’s operational, regulatory, and financial frameworks.
  • Keen analytical skills to identify financial inconsistencies and subtle irregularities.
  • Ability to work respectfully with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Commission employees, gaming operators, and public officials.
  • Clear communication, both oral and written, to summarize complex ideas for all stakeholders.
  • Capability to prepare reports and review financial data for accuracy and compliance.
