The Haslam College of Business (HCB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a Business Communication Studio (BCS) Coordinator (Full-time, Exempt) in the Professional and Career Development Office. Reporting to the Career Development Manager, the Business Communication Studio Coordinator position leads professional development and business communication opportunities for Haslam College of Business (HCB) undergraduate students. In particular, the coordinator will oversee the daily operations to ensure smooth workflow and effective communication across various departments. An area of focus will be collaborating with the BUAD 200 and 300 course coordinators for providing insight, strategic information and applied concepts pertaining to professional and career development. Furthermore, the BCS Coordinator will teach one class section of BUAD 200 or 300 each semester. This role will impact 2000+ students yearly in the Haslam College of Business. This position will define learning objectives and conduct needs assessments based on BUAD 200 & 300 coordinator's recommendations, best practices to adopt, and modify content to improve studio and learning outcomes. In addition, this role will support strategic design and development of services and/or programs that will expand the professional development of HCB students. This position works with external partners and industry professionals to enrich studio content and professional development events such as career fairs and community service projects. 

  • Studio Management
    • Identify and hire qualified peer communication consultants
    • Manage budgets for peer advisor payroll and BCS needs.
    • Oversee technology maintenance needs in collaboration with appropriate university departments.
    • Manage and oversee all aspects of BCS scheduling, including individual or event planning.   
    • Give ongoing formal and informal feedback to peer communication consultants, peer mentors,   
    • BUAD 200 & 300 Coordinators to increase learning outcomes for HCB students.
    • Create and maintain an environment of quality that incorporates new trends and best practices for overall program effectiveness.
  • Supervision / Leadership
    • Train and supervise team of Undergraduate Business students who are hired as a peer communication consultant and peer mentors to ensure they have the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively deliver business communication instruction. 
    • Provide ongoing feedback to improve instructional quality and uphold business professional communication best practices.
    • Identify and nurture potential leaders within the BCS, providing them with additional responsibilities and training to support future program success.
    • Meet 1:1 with peer mentors 1 - 2 times per semester individually for leadership development and guidance.
  • Communication Management
    • Create and edit BCS communication materials, including presentations, videos and written content to assist in the training and subject matter development for the PCC's.
    • Collaborate with BUAD 200 & 300 Coordinators for any course assignment needs and establish a strategic schedule to ensure student needs are met.
    • Build and cultivate relationships with external partners while closely monitoring professional culture shifts to maintain professional communication best practices.
  • Assessment and Data Reporting
    • Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to BCS efficiency, student experience, and number of student appointments 
    • Provide collected data to direct supervisor or Director of Career and Professional Development for annual reporting
  • College and PCD Project Support
    • Collaborate with PCD staff for strategic design and development of services and/or programs that will expand the professional development of HCB students.
    • Assist with other college/department events, as BCS schedule allows.
    • Teach one section of BUAD 200 / 300 each semester.
    • Meet 1:1 or in groups with students regarding professional development & career-related topics in both scheduled and drop-in settings.

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree required in Business, English, Communications, Education, or related field
  • 3 years of experience required in educ
