Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Highway Lead Design Project Engineer to be based in Chicago, Illinois. 

Responsibilities will include the oversight and management of various project tasks, the development of technical concepts and designs, and the preparation of documents including reports, studies, plans, specifications, and estimates. Projects may include roadways/highways, bridges, utilities, and misc. facilities related to transportation or infrastructure projects for a range of prospective clients, including state, county, and local agencies as well as private entities.

  • Leads the planning, design, evaluation and review of various tasks in support of project execution.
  • Ability to work well with others within a diverse team environment.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on complex or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests with the ability to solve complex issues with limited direction.
  • Proposes approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Carries out assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Demonstrates innovation to deliver technical and operational excellence.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to junior level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines with the ability to make autonomous decisions guided by policies, procedures and business objectives.
  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Professional Engineer license in Illinois
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel and CAD and Design software packages
  • Ability to proactively communicate and lead department staff
  • Established relationships with local clients·
  • 10 + years of experience and familiarity with IDOT, ISTHA, and local agency specifications, policies and procedures
  • Alternative delivery experience a plus
