Job Description

Block's Information Security culture is focused on helping our engineering teams build and ship secure products. We achieve this by designing, building, and deploying state-of-the-art security alongside our product and infrastructure teams.

The Cloud Risk and Insights team is responsible for defining our cloud security policies and finding and surfacing deviations. As an engineering team ourselves, we do this by building detection systems for major classes of security risk and coordinating with our policy, incident response, and platform teams. We believe that the secure option should also be the easiest option for our users. We're looking for a senior engineer with an understanding of securing infrastructure and services in a cloud-native world to help us implement this vision.

You will:

• Build systems that detect and measure security posture for the next phase of Block's cloud

• Build automation to help us discover, measure and contextualize security issues.

• Partner with platform teams to solve entire categories of security risk.

• Produce quality software that stands the test of time.

• Work remotely or in any North American Block office.

Qualifications

You have:

• 5+ years of experience as a software or security engineer (we're a Python shop. Python experience is helpful but not required).

• 1+ years of experience developing software for or securing infrastructure running on AWS. Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

• Experience implementing cloud security and hardening, especially in a large or complex environment.

• Delivered complex, cross organizational projects from concept to launch.

Bonus Points:

• Ability to work well cross-functionally, and communicate with audiences who may not have a security background.

• Experience in full stack development including user-facing tools and products.

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $245,100 - USD $299,500
Zone B: USD $232,800 - USD $284,600
Zone C: USD $220,600 - USD $269,600
Zone D: USD $208,400 - USD $254,700
