Experience with digital preservation standards and principles in one or more of the following specializations: digital archives, digital preservation, and/or digital asset management
Experience in or familiarity with archival technologies and tools related to preserving and enabling access to born-digital and reformatted digital collections (e.g. Archive-It, BitCurator, checksum tools, DuraCloud, ePADD, ImageMagick, JHOVE/2, Archivematica, Libnova, etc)
Project management experience
Demonstrated ability to teach complicated concepts in an accessible manner

Job Description:

Summary

The Digital Preservation Librarian is part of a department of specialists dedicated to maintaining and supporting long-term access to our collections and supporting ongoing reformatting and conservation work. As part of this collaborative and dynamic team, the Digital Preservation Librarian coordinates the planning and implementation of digital preservation strategies to conduct effective digital records management and collections care. They will have the opportunity to develop and refine policies, procedures, and workflows for collection management and preservation, and influence the ongoing implementation of our digital preservation platform, Libnova. They will serve in collaborative groups across several departments and will bring curiosity about and openness to learning new standards, approaches, and emerging technologies. 

The Digital Preservation Librarian will:

  • Along with colleagues in other departments, be part of a team charged with envisioning, planning, and implementing services that support the preservation of digital library materials and are consistent with best practices in the profession.

  • Participate in developing and implementing policies, procedures, workflows, and strategies for preserving born-digital, reformatted/digitized, and licensed digital content across library collections, including digital assets in the library’s digital repositories.

  • Collaboratively develop and implement policies, procedures, workflows, and strategies for transferring digital records to the University Archives.

  • Act as a resource for the campus community on digital preservation best practices and records management.

  • Act as a point of contact for vendors/services related to digital preservation.

Level Guidelines
• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
