Hourly base pay rate is $23.17 - $34.81/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

The AJC’s mission is to be the most essential and engaging source of news and information for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and the South. To achieve that mission, we will transform ourselves from a storied daily newspaper into a modern media company. Where reporters, product ninjas, video/audio masters, digital gurus and many more are delivering work across diverse creative platforms, industries and borders.

The Digital Content Producer creates audience-targeted content with a special focus on viral/trending stories and content associated with the team’s sponsorships, including Pulse (health & wellness content), Travel Guide, and more. The Digital Content Producer works closely with the Team Lead to produce stories that engage and grow our audience.

Specific duties include:

• Writing original content as assigned by the Team Lead

• Producing short videos using tools such as Vimeo

• Understanding digital content, how to frame it for social engagement, and how to measure its success

• Editing or approving content submitted by freelancers

• Creating social posts as needed to promote content

• Analyzing existing content for potential to increase revenue yield and/or distribution through tactics such as SEO optimization, headline rewriting, updating evergreen content, etc.

• Assisting in tracking performance and overall progress to annual goals

Education and Years of Experience:

• This position requires a bachelor’s degree and up to 2 years of directly relevant experience.  The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as 4+ years’ experience in a related field without a degree.  There is a preference for you to have at least 3 years of directly relevant experience.

• The ideal candidate will have strong teamwork, communication, and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to adapt quickly to an ever-changing environment.

• Familiarity with the Arc publishing platform would be ideal.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an understanding of news judgement and journalism ethics are of paramount importance. 

Other capabilities and traits should include:

• An ability to take constructive criticism

• Passion and belief in local, regional and statewide journalism and its role as a societal change agent

• Familiarity and experience in using audience metrics

• Reliable automobile transportation required.

• Reliable internet service for remote work environment required.

• Ability to work weekend and unusual hours as dictated by news events

While this position allows hybrid work, it will be based in metro Atlanta and the producer will be expected to be onsite in our Atlanta office on a regular basis. 

Benefits

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, parental leave, and COVID-19 vaccination leave.
