Hillcrest Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department provides pediatric care services in child-friendly waiting rooms where they have more privacy and comfort. This department is staffed 24/7 with board-certified, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, as well as nurses who are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and pediatric trauma care. The Pediatric Emergency Department has a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) unit which provides children who are victims of assault, abuse or neglect with private care, utmost respect, compassion, complete physical assessments and, if needed, collecting physical evidence. The Emergency Department also has Child Life Specialists who help reduce anxiety for children and their families and provide guidance and emotional support. As an RN in this unit, you will help ensure patients have the care they need quickly. All the while, your fellow caregivers will assist you, offering a cohesive, encouraging and constructive front to enhance the patient's experience and your skills as a nurse.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.  

• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.  

• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).  

• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.  

• Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.  

• Document in patients’ medical records

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing   

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC – adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC – geriatric) completion upon or within two years of hire 
• New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical in
