About the role

California College of the Arts seeks an experienced generalist to serve as a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) & Investigations Specialist. Having the ability to build strong relationships at all levels, this position partners with business leaders and employees to assess needs and provide an array of HR services - including but not limited to staff planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, etc. Under the direction of the HR Director, this position serves as an investigator for formal complaints. Ultimately a key supporter in the recruitment and retention of top talent, the HRBP supports HR in shepherding CCA’s culture, maintaining compliance, and promoting initiatives that help make CCA a great place to work.

This position requires a successful completion of a background check.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Partner - 50%

  • Provide core human resources services and related HR programs to a number of units across the college.

  • Partner with leaders to understand their function/area of business and provide coaching to management on employee relations.

  • Work with hiring managers recruit and retain top talent; review exit data to understand trends and address issues. 

  • Provide new hire onboarding, performance management, workforce planning including job description analysis, and talent management for associated business/functional units.

  • Listen to and understand business needs, striking a balance to support both employees and managers. Elevate higher-level issues to the HR Director for discussion, alignment, and strategic guidance as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external policies, regulations and legislation.

Employee Relations/Investigations - 20%

  • Serve as an investigator for discrimination and harassment complaints as well as Title IX cases.

  • Ensure employee relations issues within business units are addressed quickly and appropriately; complete complaint intakes and conduct investigations.

Support HR Operations, Program, & Initiatives - 30%

  • Support HR operations and services in leaves of absence, workers compensation, training, and policy awareness.

  • Conduct presentations and trainings, programs, and other initiatives.

  • Facilitates requests through HRIS System (Workday)

  • Support in HR administrative activities; including maintaining employee records.

  • Act as a benefit coordinator working to respond to benefit related questions and a liaison with benefit broker as well as approve benefit changes in Workday following policies.

  • Support in responding to HR inquiries via Teamwork desk.

  • Support in documentation & communication; including updating Portal, coordinating HR newsletter.

  • Performs additional duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree or HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred

  • 2-4 years prior experience working in human resources required.

  • Higher education experience, preferred. Familiarity with union environments or working with collective bargaining agreements. preferred.

  • Experience acting as a benefits liaison and coordinating with brokers to manage employee benefits.

  • Expertise in core HR areas including employment administration: employee relations, recruiting, performance management and benefits, leave administration and HR best practices.

  • Proven success leading civil rights and ER investigations

  • Comprehensive knowledge of general employment legislation and the application of regulations in the areas of TITLE VII, EEOC, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA and related employment laws.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Experience working in and with a diverse, collaborative, productive team.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures.
