About the role
Position Summary
- The Maintenance Tech is responsible for performing maintenance tasks necessary to preserve the buildings and grounds of Weeks Medical Center and to maintain the service equipment and systems in a safe, clean and operational condition. This position requires a willingness to work weekends, nights, and holidays as necessary, also having the ability to work well with others and on his / her own.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years' experience in the hospital maintenance field.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- High School Graduate or equivalent GED.
- Requires practical experience in mechanical trades. Must have knowledge of measuring and testing equipment, hand and power tools, and electrical equipment.
- Must have basic knowledge of the following:
- Boilers and associated systems
- Electrical, ventilation and air conditioning systems
- Plumbing, carpentry and painting
- Hospital gases and gas system
- Basic knowledge of applicable safety engineering codes
- English speaking and writing skills required / preferred.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Must be able to read and understand basic blueprint and technical drawings in order to fabricate both common and unique casework and structures using a wide variety of materials, including but not limited to, plywood, plexiglass, domitar panel, Lexan, hard - soft wood lumber, Masonite, Formica, masonry material and steel framing.
- Work on assigned building and remodeling construction projects, reviews and evaluates blueprints and technical drawings and makes recommendations and comments to the Facilities Manager / Supervisor of Support Services prior to and during the construction phase.
- Must be able to perform assigned construction work duties according to blueprints, such as but not limited to, Installation of cabinets, work stations, various types of counter top, chair/handrail, sealing penetrations in fire/smoke barriers accordance with NFPA codes and standards, sheet rocking and applying sheetrock joint compound to quality finish, laying out and installing suspended grid style ceilings, installing door jambs and hanging doors, installing window jambs and installing glass, laying out and installing floors of all types, performing proper subfloor prep such as stripping, cleaning, applying vapor barrier and leveling with proper/approved material, installing vinyl wall base, installs structural support steel such as unistrut and welding structures and performs a wide variety of demolition work, taking down walls, ceilings and tearing up flooring, assisting with door and hardware repair, assisting with concrete installation and repair.
- Perform routine scheduled Preventative Maintenance work and daily rounding according to established procedures, including but not limited to, replacing broken or stained ceiling tile and grid work, repairing damaged wallboard paneling, replacing damaged vinyl floor tile and wall base, adjusting, repairing or replacing door hardware such as locksets, closures and hinges, also checks and repairs safety and handicapped hardware like grab bars and handrails.
