BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P ET DESKTOP SERVICES Department of the P INFO TECHNOLOGY & SVCS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)
JOB FUNCTION:
Provides technical support for the desktop and infrastructure products and services. Assists with testing and evaluation of desktop hardware and software. Makes recommendations for configuration of desktop hardware and software solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides first and second level telephone or on-site support to resolve problems with or assist in the use of desktop products and services. Works closely with Desktop Services Infrastructure Analysts as necessary on desktop hardware and software configurations. Dispatches contractors and other personnel in response to customer trouble calls. Monitors the trouble ticket system. Is available beyond core business hours to provide emergency support of said systems plus routing after hour maintenance and patching.
- Provides assistance and training to internal staff and company customers. Prepares instructional material on hardware and software enhancements and teaches, guides, and informs internal staff and company customers regarding use.
- Works with consultants and customers, then recommends and configures the best desktop solutions for the customer’s needs. Participates in identifying and evaluating new desktop hardware and software products. Provides input on the selection and adoption of new standards and products for desktop hardware and software.
- Proposes or develops procedures, processes and innovative ways to improve the efficiency and economics of the desktop function.
- Provides backup support to the IT Infrastructure & Operations Division and their desktop, server and network systems.
- Assists with desktop hardware and software installations and relocations.
- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of information system technologies normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of desktop operating systems, tools and other supported software and hardware configurations.
- Knowledge of information systems, distributed computing environment and computer technologies (hardware, software and connectivity), basic telecommunications and e-business.
